Yu Heng - Barefoot Music
Yu Heng is a songwriter from Malaysia. When contracted to Rock Records Co., Ltd. in 2001 she took the Malaysian music industry by storm with her debut album "Still Be Friends" and later gained international exposure from her 2005 album "Happy Day". Yu Heng later took up music production duties, and her music received greater acclaim - including her 2011 album "From Here to There" being recognized at the 11th Global Chinese Music Awards and the 17th Singapore Hit Awards.
Since her debut in 2001, Yu Heng has composed hundreds of songs. After marrying her husband (Taiwanese songwriter Jia-Jun Liu) in 2013, they founded Barefoot Music and started looking for future music stars - all while dedicating themselves to songwriting and delivering something new to Taiwan’s music industry.
Barefoot Music normally stored their works on computers and public cloud services. As multimedia files are continually growing in size, this storage solution was not ideal and led to a disorganized arrangement of hard drives with the very real fear of data loss due to drive failure. The reliance on public cloud services also had the potential for accidental leaking of music files - which can be extremely costly in the music industry. Therefore, their top priority was to find a reliable storage solution that could be easily expanded to fit future needs.
Media companies need to be able to quickly share files in the most convenient way possible. Like other companies, Barefoot Music relied on external hard drives and USB storage to share files between computers and devices - which can take a long time and lacks the ability to share files to non-local devices. Public cloud storage may be one solution, but subscription fees, compatibility issues and available bandwidth might be an issue. Barefoot Music required more convenient file-sharing methods to enhance their working relationship with partners and artists.
After carrying out diligent research on various storage solutions, Barefoot Music chose to adopt the QNAP TS-453Be. This NAS is powered by an Intel® Celeron® J3455 quad-core 1.5GHz processor and provides a PCIe slot for adding extra functions (including additional network ports, wireless connectivity by PCIe wireless adapter - QWA-AC2600, and M.2 SSD caching). The TS-453Be supports dual-channel 4K H.264 processing to provide a smooth media viewing experience on a range of devices, and provides a wide range of productivity tools to enhance the work efficiency of media creators.
Barefoot Music uses their NAS TS-453Be with WD Red™ 4TB NAS hard drives. Especially designed for NAS environments and featuring NASWARE 3.0 technology, WD Red NAS hard drives balance performance and reliability while facilitating effective energy-saving and heat dissipation. WD Red™ drives also provide built-in intelligent error recovery controls to prevent hard drives from being dropped from the RAID due to extended error recovery.
The TS-453Be supports up to 48TB raw storage capacity and can be expanded in various ways - including QNAP's Virtual JBOD (VJBOD) solution - to meet the growing demands for storage as business increases.
The works created by Barefoot Music and their associated artists is understandably precious to everyone involved, and this requires a backup and recovery solution that guarantees their safekeeping. The QNAP TS-453Be provides a range of modern backup solutions, including full snapshot support. Snapshots record the content of files when the snapshot is taken, and files can be quickly reverted to this content if they are accidentally deleted or modified. Snapshots can be taken manually or by schedule, and up to 1,024 snapshots can be saved on the TS-453Be.
Files can be quickly uploaded to the TS-453Be and accessed from various devices, enabling the effective sharing of large files without worrying about size limits. There are also a range of companion mobile apps for accessing files and managing the TS-453Be remotely.
Not only can the storage space of the TS-453Be be expanded to fit growing needs, but the core network connectivity can also be upgraded. With its PCIe slot, Barefoot Music can potentially install a QNAP QM2 card to provide M.2 SSD caching and 10GbE connectivity to supercharge their ability to transfer and work with large files without lag or delay.
The flexible storage expansion of QNAP TS-453Be helped Barefoot Music to solve their issues with insufficient storage space. The complete backup solution also provides effective protection against data loss. The potential to upgrade both the storage space and network connectivity also ensures that the TS-453Be is capable of adapting to future requirements for Barefoot Music. The high endurance and reliable storage performance of WD Red™ drives also ensures that Barefoot Music can continue to focus all of their energies on making music without having to worry about where to store it.
